LITTERING
We just can't seem to outgrow this filthy habit. If you visit the home of a Malaysian, it is generally rather clean and neat. But once in public territory, we have this strange mentality that all the world's a dumping ground. Just visit the complexes, shops, parks, playgrounds, and other public places and you'll find litter and vandalism everywhere. What I find most infuriating is that out picnic spots, our streams, waterfalls, beaches, nature trails and forest are clogged with rubbish. If people can seek out lovely restful places for relief, surely they will automatically know how to value their beauty without soiling the place. Even cats know how to cover up their faeces, so why can't we get rid of our manmade waste by throwing it in the dustbin? And if there are not enough bins around (which is really happening), what is so difficult about taking the litter with us until we find a place to dispose it? Why do Malaysians find it the height of painful embarrassment to have to carry their own litter. |
